Since 2018 Chinese A level has changed its exam content which makes it almost impossible for a non-native speaker students to achieve high grades (read more)
Since then more and more schools have to creatively think other alternative routes for post GCSE learning. In 2018-2023, when I was the Head of Chinese in a public boy school, I have introduced HSK Level 3 and 4 course to the non native speaker students after they completed Chinese GCSE. Almost half of them then went on to study Chinese or combined Chinese degree in the UK top universities.
